A World where the polar ice caps has melted. Imagine that............

The red-hot sun flares in the incandescent sky, daily temperatures climb up to a dangerously high level of 45 degrees Celsius. As a result of the blinding heat, all forms of life have gone into the hiding. The surrounding is always lifeless, no chirping of birds, no humming of bees, even the rustle of leaves is rare. There is not a single sign of life, except for an occasional snake slithering hurriedly into cracks in the ground. Plants have all adapted to their surroundings and virtually all plants are "cactus like". With needle-like leaves to prevent water loss and thick stems to store water. Animals and Man have also adapted themselves to the environment by surviving on distilled sea water, sea weeds, other aquatic animals and desert plants. Under such "horrendous" conditions, would anyone be happy? Would anyone be satisfied?

Imagine yourself being surrounded by oceans or deserts wherever you go. No greenery, only barren land or plain oceans. How is that? You would feel terrible for sure, wouldn't you? Well your fears may jolly-well come true if mankind still refuses to take any actions against the issue. The greenhouse effect is basically a natural occurring process by which green house gasses (e.g. Carbon Dioxide, water vapour, and methane etc.) in the atmosphere absorb longwave radiation from the Earth's surface. This trapping of heat is vital for life as it balances the Earth's temperature level, moderating it and keeping it at a healthy level.

However, like all medicine, too much a dosage will harm the patient, therefore when too much greenhouse gasses are released into the atmosphere, due to pollution or gas leaks, or other reasons, the enhanced green house effect would occur. Great amounts of heat would be trapped, therefore the Earth's temperature would escalate. This "over-heating" of the Earth's atmosphere is known as global warming. If we do not control the pollution rate, than there might be more carbon dioxide in the air, and the enhanced green house effect would occur. Thus all of us should do something about pollution and try to stop it. In addition, logging also contributes to the enhanced greenhouse effect. As more trees are felled, there would be fewer trees to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere by the process of photosynthesis. As a result, the global carbon dioxide concentration in the atmosphere would increase and lead to an enhancement in the green house effect. As global temperature increases, many changes occur, disaster might also strike. First of all, the polar ice caps would melt, and thus raise the sea level. This in turn causes floods, massive floods. Secondly, at high temperatures, various vegetation cannot survive too, thus crops would not grow and food would be scarce, causing a famine. Last of all, when temperature rises, and vegetation cannot thrive, land would become infertile and barren, leading to desertification of many areas.

But, come to think of it, the effects of global warming are quite ironical, isn't it? On one hand, there would be flooding, yet on the other hand, deserts would form. So, apparently, Earth would be divided into oceans and deserts. This is actually rather "incredible" as both are of very different natures. But, whether it is a watery atmosphere or a dry atmosphere, no one would want it! We want a balanced and green environment! Hence there is only one solution! Stop pollution and help save our environment! Make our Earth a better place for everyone to live in!
